The margouillat belongs to the Gekkonidae family. It is a small to average sized lizard living in warm climates and commonly known as GECKO.
The gecko is mainly insectivorous but it can be carnivorous or frugivorous.
In Mayotte, the gecko forms part of the everyday surroundings. The species belong to the diurnal wall geckos.
Less wild before man, who is seldom fond of its company, the Mahoran margouillat can prove helpful though : it eats the pests.
In some countries, it is a sacred animal, and is even considered as a lucky charm.
